چکیده

one of the signifiant risk factor of ischemic stroke is carotid artery occlusion. although surgical treatment was disappointing in these patient but there is a growing reports of sucessful endovascular treatment recently. in this technical note 56 year-old man who suffered from bilateral carotid occlusion was revascularized. the penumbra thrombosuction system was applied to reduce the risk of distal embolization. the result was satisfactory, carotid occlusion was revascularized and the patient condition was good. so penumbra system may decrease the risk of distal emboli and could be useful in carotid occlusion treatment.

Endovascular management of chronic internal carotid occlusion with Penumbra system

Carotid occlusion is a common disease and its incidence is about 6 in 100000. Annual risk of stroke is between 3% and 10% in older than 60 years with carotid occlusion and recurrent ischemic event have been reported in 25% of symptomatic carotid occlusion.1 Since many years ago it has been advocated in complete arterial occlusion, there was no chance for emboli to pass into the distal circulati...

Endovascular Management of Long-Segmental Petrocavernous Internal Carotid Artery (Carotid S) Occlusion

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Long-segmental thrombotic occlusion of the distal internal carotid artery (ICA) sparing the cervical segment proximally and the supraclinoid segment distally, which could be termed 'Carotid S occlusion', has an unusual clinical presentation. However, endovascular management of this lesion is challenging. The purpose of our study is to report our endovascular treatment cli...

Endovascular revascularization of symptomatic acute extracranial internal carotid artery occlusion.

See related article, pages 2426–2430. Acute extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) occlusion resulting in ischemic stroke is different from other forms of acute occlusion of the cerebral blood vessels. The occluded segment of the ICA consists of predominantly atherosclerotic plaque and a superimposed thrombus. The occluded segments in other cerebral blood vessels, such as the middle cerebra...

Protected endovascular revascularization of subacute and chronic total occlusion of the internal carotid artery.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The natural course of symptomatic carotid artery occlusion with hemodynamic impairment is poor. Surgical revascularization may improve the outcome; however, its efficacy has not been established yet. The goal of this study was to characterize the technical and clinical outcomes following endovascular recanalization of the ICA under cerebral circulatory protection. MATER...

Procedural safety and potential vascular complication of endovascular recanalization for chronic cervical internal carotid artery occlusion.

BACKGROUND Patients with chronic cervical internal carotid artery occlusion (ICAO) and cerebral ischemia may benefit from revascularization. The feasibility of endovascular recanalization for chronic ICAO has been reported recently, but its safety is still unproven. We report the follow-up results of 54 chronic ICAO patients who underwent endovascular recanalization, focusing on potential vascu...

Duplex ultrasound assisted endovascular revascularization of chronic internal carotid artery occlusion: technical note.

Carotid artery occlusion is a major risk factor for ischemic stroke. Endovascular treatment of carotid artery occlusion in high-risk patients offers a therapeutic option to reduce subsequent ischemic events. The technical success and avoidance of complications of the endovascular recanalization of occluded carotid artery is contingent on proper visualization of the vessel wall. To highlight the...
